Actress Maxine Elliott was a legend in
her day. Extensive documentation of her life (1868–1940) in such forms
as scrapbooks, photographs and theater playbills is preserved for
posterity in Raymond H. Fogler Library's Special Collections at the
University of Maine.
Hers is one of nearly 1,200 collections
archived at UMaine, putting researchers in touch with original materials
that offer eyewitness accounts of history in the making. A story about
UMaine's Special Collections begins on page 2.
