Video Text: We believe that the solution to the problem is to learn how to raise the fish in captivity, which is a big challenge because they're really difficult to raise compared to freshwater fish, and there's a lot of research still to be done. At this point in time, only 5 percent are raised in captivity, and we can only raise about 30 different species out of more than 1,000 species that are brought into the United States every year. We have a long way to go. My research focuses on identifying a suitable live food that can be used as live prey in a small enough size. The challenge with 90 percent of the fish on the reef is that the larvae are really small, the larvae that hatch out of the egg, and that they have to eat something live for the first 3-4 weeks of their lives. So, my research project focuses on idenitifying and learning how to culture live food in the right size for them to eat and provide this food for them.
